Pittosporum Tobira (Japanese Pittosporum)

This shrubby plant does well in a cool or an intermediate greenhouse; likes bright light or full sun, but can also be grown in diffused sunlight.

Pot in equal parts garden soil, well-rotted manure, and peat or humus, with a little sand added for good drainage. Water thoroughly, then allow to dry somewhat before the next watering.

Dark green leather-like leaves of P. Tobira have a lighter middle rib; P. Tobira variegata has green and white leaves. Seeds germinate in about 15 days.
