This dainty plant seldom appears in lists of plants recommended for growing under glass. The compact 4-inch high plants are covered with irregularly shaped flowers of bright clear blue, white, or red-foliage is delicate and lacy. It is an ideal edging plant for greenhouse benches, or can be grown as a pot plant. Sow several seeds in peat pots containing a mix of 1 part each sand, leaf mold, and garden loam; do not cover seed.
When plants are established, sink the peat pots to their tops in bench soil about 6 inches apart; space 10 inches apart if they are to be combined with other edging plants. Lobelias do best in semi-shade; pinch to get full, shapely plants.
