A flat or two of this airy annual is indispensable to provide delicate blossoms for flower arrangements. To have a continuous crop, sow seeds in December (germination five days) and repeat about every two weeks through April.
In winter it takes about three months from seed to bloom (earlier winter flowering can be hastened somewhat by the use of artificial light); toward spring, a month less is required.
Color forms of this species are available with white, rose, or crimson flowers.
