Change bench soil; or add sand, peatmoss or shredded osmunda fiber, and superphosphate or a 5-10-5 fertilizer (a 3-inch potful to a bushel of soil) to your present bench soil. Turn soil to distribute added material evenly. Let stand before using; it will be ready for a new crop when the gardening season starts in September.

Have heating system checked and serviced if this was not done during your general summer housecleaning.

Make geranium cuttings.

Start seeds of stocks for January bloom, trachymene for March flowers, and cyclamen for flowers in 15 to 18 months.

Pot freesia corms; also bulbs of Madonna lily for bloom next May.
